Welcome to the VRA Data Standards Committee (DSC) wiki!
Our charge from the Visual Resources Association is "To develop, advocate and promote standard descriptive practices in visual resources collections that will facilitate the management, organization, and exchange of information.”
More specifically our goals are:
• To identify, develop, and disseminate information that promotes standard descriptive practices
• To communicate visual resources interests to public agencies that make policy and commercial vendors who develop tools and resources applicable to visual collections
• To establish liaisons and cooperative exchanges with similar interest groups in the museum, library, and archival communities
This wiki is where we will share documents, post info about upcoming meetings and meeting minutes, and share information about initiatives related to our work. The wiki is maintained by members of the Data Standards Committee and its contents are a work in progress and do not represent any finished projects.
Committee Structure
The DSC is comprised of Working Groups and Task Forces. Working Groups are standing groups that are established to foster the ongoing activities of the DSC, while the Task Forces are formed to tackle finite projects and initiatives and are usually dissolved once a project has been completed.

Instructions for uploading and linking to files:
- Go to the page where you want to link to the file.
- For example, go to any subcommittee page and click on the Edit tab at the top of the page. Put your cursor at the bottom of the page.
- Try uploading your file to this page by going to Insert Links (On the right sidebar). "Insert Links" let you choose to link to any other page in the wiki or to a file or image you have uploaded.
- If you click on the "Images and Files" tab it will show you all of the files that have been uploaded to the wiki.
- Click "browse" to find your file on your local harddrive. Click "Upload" and your file will now be added to the file list.
- Click your file from the list and it will be added to your page.
- Choose "save" at the bottom of the screen. You should now see your file linked to the page.
- To delete the file, click on the Edit tab again, highlight the file name from the bottom of the page, click delete and re-save the page. Note: This will delete the link to the file but will not delete the file itself from the wiki. You'll need to ask one of the administrators of the wiki (in our case either Trish or Margaret to delete the file).
